The site sets no cookies and has no accounts, no forms and no tracking. Nothing is loaded from other sites: no scripts, no type, no embedded media.
Who is responsible
On the Motif is run by Rakibuzzaman Rahat on Bluesky. Write to hello@onthemotif.com.
Visiting the site
- Cloudflare delivers the site. To serve each page and keep the site safe, it handles every request: the IP address, the browser, the page asked for and the time. A site cannot be delivered without this, so the legal basis is a legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Only if Cloudflare has to check that a visitor is not a bot does it set a cookie of its own for that check.
- Cloudflare acts for the site as a processor under its data processing agreement. It may handle data in the United States, under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, with standard contractual clauses as the fallback.
- Visits are counted from those same requests, on Cloudflare's side, as totals such as pages and countries. Nothing is read from or stored on the device to count them, and only the totals are looked at.
- The site keeps no records of its own. Cloudflare keeps request records for the periods its privacy policy describes.
- Nothing has to be given: a page cannot be delivered without its request, and a message cannot be answered without an address.
In the browser
- A photo taken in a World is made in the browser and never uploaded. Sharing it goes through the device's own share menu.
- The browser keeps one setting: how the words sit on a photo in Photo Mode (on paper, on the photo or on a wall), so it is there next time. It is never sent anywhere. Keeping it is strictly necessary for a feature you chose (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). Clearing the site's data in the browser removes it.
Writing to the site
- Mail to hello@onthemotif.com is forwarded by Cloudflare to a Gmail inbox, so Google also stores it. Google is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
- A message and its address are used only to answer it (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; for a request under Articles 15–21, Article 6(1)(c)). They are deleted once the conversation is over, unless the law requires keeping them.
Links
Links lead to museums, archives, sources and Bluesky. Once a link is followed, that site's own privacy notice applies.
Your rights
- You may ask to see the data held about you, and to have it corrected, erased, restricted or handed over (Articles 15–20 GDPR). Write to hello@onthemotif.com.
- You may complain to a data protection authority, for example the one where you live (Article 77 GDPR).
Your right to object
Where data is handled on the basis of a legitimate interest, you may object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation (Article 21 GDPR). Write to hello@onthemotif.com.
